History Elective and the New Curriculum

Will there still be an elective option for students in Stage 5 in the National Curriculum? This is the only time I ever really enjoy teaching history, when I am confonted with a class of students who elected to study History - plus if we lose this we lose stage 6 numbers? Does anyone know?
