Hi,

During my professional experience I planned a lesson on Roman Drama for year 7. My teacher loved this idea and posponed the lesson so i could do a whole unit during my block. I know there are loads of things with Greek Drama. I was just wondering if anyone had any good ideas that i could include. I will be looking at the Pot of Gold by Plautus. As a school we do not have any copies of roman drama. The students are in a gifted and talented class and are very keen to start this unit. Any ideas would be fantastic.

- thankyou chantelle

While I haven't taught a unit on Ancient Roman drama, I imagine you will approach it in the same way that I teach Ancient Greek drama. If possible I like to introduce the topic using a small extract of a filmed performance to generate some curiosity. Start a discussion on features of Roman entertainment, brainstorm some topics of interest, then set some preliminary research - just enough to whet their appetite. You will be creating a visual and mental collage for them. Follow on with the students identifying some bigger questions about Roman life (pick the period to make it easier) that will dovetail into your planned study. Being a G & T group, they will take your ideas and transform them into something that will be as exciting for you as it is for them. More research, reconstructions, re-enactments and presentations on everyday life in Ancient Rome. You could always wrap up with a performance and a feast. Even the food can be researched!
